TRAILMATE STEPS UP TO LARGE TASK
KREMMLING, Colo. While skinning a buffalo, hunting guide Randy Gaskill turned to a small knife to take on the big task, the Trailmate from Marble's.
Gaskill and fellow guide Jon Maron used the knife to help hunters skin a buffalo at the Bear Mountain Ranch in Colorado. No small task on a big animal.
"The handle did not slip in my hand when it got bloody," declared Gaskill after he was finished skinning the buffalo.
The guides found the clip point blade style to be perfect for gutting, skinning and capping the buffalo.
"The knife fit perfectly in my hand and, because buffalos are such big animals, I was worried about my hand getting tired but it didn't. My grip remained strong," Moran said.
When finished, the guides were pleased to find that the Trailmate was just as sharp as when they started skinning the animal.
The Trailmate is made with crucible 154-CM Stainless Steel, a heat treatable steel that offers higher hardness and wear resistance and enhanced corrosion resistance than 440C stainless steel.
The Bear Mountain Ranch guides also loved the guide style horizontal sheath.
"It hugs tight against my belt and didn't catch on anything when we were in the field," Gaskill said. "This is a great little knife to carry."
The overall length of the Trailmate is 7 1/4 inches with a blade length of 3 1/4 inches. The hunter green or amber jigged bone handle provides a secure grip.
Gaskill said the Trailmate is the knife both hunting guides plan to wear everyday.
